Isn’t it great when you’re feeling inspired, and you know you can do anything that you set your mind on doing? However, it’s not all the time that feeling inspired will push us to realize our dreams. When we’re inspired to action, everything seems easy and fun. What we have to be prepared for is when we don’t feel like working on our tasks.
What plans do you have right now? Maybe you want to write a novel, start a business, build a garden, or finish a book. Whatever your goals are, inspiration can propel you to start, but it’s going to take a lot more to see things through till the end. You will need commitment, perseverance, and endurance. You must be consistent in working on your goals every day. Make it a part of your daily routine so that even when you don’t feel inspired, you have it on your to-do list.
Without acting on your ideas and dreams, they will never happen. Inspiration is good, but you can’t depend on it every day. We all experience bad days when we don’t feel like doing anything. It’s vital to know and practice turning inspiration into action so that you can reach your goals. Here are three ways on how you can start taking action toward your dreams.
You may have already thought of your goals, but that’s the thing: you’ve only thought of them. One of the best ways that you can kick start working on them is by writing them down. Grab a piece of paper and pen and scribble away. For sure, you want to achieve a lot of things in life. Your goals could be about your finances, health, career, family, relationships, and other essential aspects that you may want to work on.
If you want to lose weight, for example, don’t just write down “lose weight.” Instead, try writing “lose two pounds this month.” Make sure that your goal is realistic and achievable but still challenging enough to push you to grow. If you want to write a novel, then make your goal as specific as possible. Put it in writing: “write 500 words every morning while having coffee.” As you can see, there’s even a specific time on when you’re going to do it. Be as specific as you can.
Nothing can make us work harder than beating the deadline. A bit of time pressure is good for tricking your mind into doing difficult tasks. Of course, you have to set a realistic timeline for yourself. Otherwise, you’ll just get stressed out because your timeline is simply impossible to beat. Allow yourself sufficient time to do what you have to do.
You don’t just say “lose ten pounds in 3 months.” While that may be possible for some, but if you haven’t tried losing weight before, don’t set the bar too high. You can set it for five months or even half a year. If you are able to meet that goal, then you can challenge yourself more if you want to continue to shed those unwanted pounds.
It goes the same for other aspects of your life, like your finances. Maybe you want to save 40% of your income every month. But that’s a big chunk of the pie. Consider first what you need to spend to survive, like food, rent or mortgage, gas, car maintenance, utility bills, and miscellaneous expenses. If you’re not spending a lot on these things because you ride a bicycle or you’ve invested in solar panels to power your home, then that’s great! Go for it! However, you can always start small, like saving 5% or 10% of your income. You can then work your way up.
Developing new habits can be challenging because we tend to forget about them. It’s crucial to find a way to integrate them into your daily routine. If working out is challenging to schedule, but if you want to lose weight, you can start by taking the stairs whenever possible. Instead of taking a cigarette break if you’re a smoker, try reading or listening to an audiobook during your free time. That’s hitting two birds with one stone right there. You get to eliminate a bad habit while introducing a good one.
If you don’t have time to write, but you really have all these great ideas in mind, how about using your smartphone as a voice recorder so you can have a rough draft of your thoughts. You can do this while you’re driving to work or going back home, and you’re stuck in rush hour traffic. Then devote some time during the weekends so you can type or write down your voice recordings. You can do anything that you set your mind to do for as long as you find every possible way to make them happen.
Use inspiration as a way to get you started working on your dreams. But also know that one day, you won’t be as inspired as you once were, so you need to build a system. This system includes your goals, timeline, and habits. Use them well so that you can finally achieve whatever it is that you want to happen.
Remember to start small and then continually challenge yourself to work on harder and harder tasks. It’s a way to ensure that you’re growing as you go along. You’re strengthening yourself, and you’re becoming even more resilient to the difficulties in life.
Turning inspiration into action is doable. Even if you think that you don’t have time or energy to pursue your dreams, but if you have a system in place, you can work on them little by little. Don’t be discouraged if you think that you’re not making progress. For as long as you work on your goals every day consistently, you’ll get there. Inspire others to do the same as well.
