Dating Someone Who Isn't Your Type?

How do you choose the person to date? When it comes to your dating life, it is not uncommon to set your eyes on someone who falls under a particular type. Time and again, relationship after another, you always seem to fall for people of a specific type.

"I hate my boyfriend," that's what you said about the last one you dated. But the new guy you are dating is someone who reminds you of the person you once fell in love with in the past. What's the point of dating if you keep dating the same type of person again and again?

But have you ever thought of going out with someone who isn't your type? What if you took the risk this time, and you chose to step outside of your comfort zone.

What Do Your Preferences Make Of You?

Who should I date? This is one of the questions that you will be left asking when it seems everyone you've dated isn't a good fit. What do you do next? Who do you go out with?

Everyone has their dating preferences. Over time, these preferences may change in detail until you find the "type" you are attracted to. This explains why you always fall for the same type of person. If you're not in a stable relationship now, your "type" might be why.

When you have a particular type, you might unintentionally limit your options. It is like you have boxed yourself to a specific type. It becomes a problem when you feel connected to another person who does not fall into the category of who you usually date. The sad part is that when you dismiss how you feel about him or what makes you feel just because he's not your "type."

It is okay to be attracted to people of a particular "type." However, you must also be open to the possibility of dating someone who does not have the usual traits that you are looking for. Missing out of this opportunity might be detrimental to you in the end.

What Happens If You Date Someone Not Your "Type?"

What are the telltale signs you are attractive? What do you find interesting in a person that makes you say that "I think I like it."? It is fairly important to know what it is that you want, but it shouldn't limit your options at all.

When you feel a certain kind of attraction to someone who isn't normally your type, you shouldn't tell yourself that it's not worth a shot. In truth, experts say that if you choose to date someone who isn't your type, you are opening yourself up to something worth it.

Here are some of the benefits they say you'd enjoy:

You might uncover a hidden talent

Suppose you are used to dating someone who pulls you towards the things that you already like; you can only imagine the possibilities if you dated someone not your type at all. It might just open doors for new hobbies. He might just let you realize all the many things that are out there.

You might be able to pick up a hobby or two and discover the side of you that loves it.

Having a partner who doesn't fall under your "type" could expose you to new hobbies and experiences. They might even help you unlock hidden talent.

For example, you might be shy and artistic. But dating someone athletic might just get you started on that healthier lifestyle. You can enjoy all of that.

You might just realize that you have a new "type"

When you date someone who is not your type, he might just make you realize that over time, you have found a new "type" of person you'd like to date. You'll never realize this one until you date someone who isn't the usual guy.

People have this idea inside their heads that they could only be happy when they date someone of this "type" and reject all possible happiness when they date someone else of a different "type."

When you get out of your comfort zone, that's the only time you'll realize that the past relationships didn't work because your "type" might be the wrong one.

You might realize that you don't know what your "type" is at all

Meeting new people can make you realize a lot of things. This includes the fact that you might not really know what your "type" is at all. Some people assume they know the type that they like. And so when they go out and date someone who does not fall under their assumed category, they simply think that they haven't found the one.

This is the very reason why you should be dating someone who's not your type. It will give you room to actually weigh things and consider what's important. Does this new person make you feel good? Do you actually like the time you spend with him?

Your answer to all this makes you think about not having a "type" at all. It might just make you realize that you don't even know what you want all these years.

You may just have more dates

When you're single and looking for some company, going out on dates is one of the best ways to meet people. However, boxing yourself to only dating a certain "type" could eventually limit your options.

In the end, you would realize that you haven't enjoyed your dating years because you were too focused on finding the right one. When you go out to date people, not your usual "type," you will see that they have something else to offer that you might just like.

What's Your Takeaway?

There is nothing wrong about having qualities that you like for a partner. These values or traits maybe the things that make you feel comfortable around them. And yet, so many things can happen when you go out of your comfort zone.

Not only will you be able to meet people with different personalities, but you might just discover something you'd love. Every person you meet might be the one. You just have to let yourself open to the possibility
