The Beauty Of Being Alone

Did you know that a significant number of people all over the world are still afraid of being alone? Maybe to an extent, all of us have this unexplainable fear of being left on our own.

People fear the thought of living without family or friends. Some worry about growing old alone, or not being intimate with anyone. We have this fear of traveling to a new place and getting lost because we have no one to ask directions. People think that when they are alone, they are a failure.

Although it is natural to fear being alone, you must learn to be alone. We desperately try to avoid feeling this fear, but it sometimes comes naturally for humans to want to be with other people.

Sadly, this trepidation causes many people unnecessary misery. In their desire to avoid being alone, they socialize most of the time, whether in person, face to face, or through social media sites. To prevent growing old alone, they marry someone they barely know and end up in an unhappy marriage for years.

And then others binge eat their way to find comfort in the fact that they are alone. All these things have become a replacement for love. And while it may seem sad to be alone, others have found peace in it. They are alone but happy, and that's more than they could ask for.

Can Being Alone Mean Something Else?

While it is a common notion that being alone is sad, there is another way of looking at it. Being alone has mostly been associated with anything bleak, scary, and depressing. However, another way of looking at it can transform all these negative notions into something genuinely liberating.

Being alone can mean enjoying your quiet time. Although everyone can benefit from some quiet time, those who are too afraid to be lonely don't allow themselves to. What they don't realize is that you can use the time to think and ponder upon ideas.

Being alone can empower you to be your best self. Not only does it allow you to develop your talents and skills, but it gives you a lot of room to be comfortable with who you are. Knowing that you can be a strong, independent person will provide you with a confidence boost.

Being alone can help you see how being independent can be liberating. It is not about not needing people in your life. Rather, it is about not needing others to survive. When you can be on your own, you can be whoever you want to be without being dependent on what others think or say about you.

Enjoy Yourself

Being alone should teach you how you can enjoy your own company. Some may have to learn this the hard way, but it will be worth it.

How do you feel when you look in the mirror? What do you see? Do you see someone capable of doing things alone? Or are you looking at someone who cannot be self-sufficient?

As you take the time to contemplate your life, allow yourself to let go of the fear and celebrate. Being alone can be beautiful.

How Do You Teach Yourself It's Okay To Be Alone?

Whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, discovering the beauty of being alone takes time. Remember that you are not only learning how to be happy without friends, but you are teaching yourself how to love yourself more.

Here are some tips to help you make it happen:

Know that you are enough

You are a person of value. You don't need someone else to tell you that. Whenever you are alone, remind yourself that it is your choice. It is not because no one wants to be with you.

It is fairly easy to find someone to spend time with, but you have to set your standards high. This means that you don't want to be with someone that brings you down because you'll actually be better off with just yourself.

Listen to what you have to say

Other people's opinions of your life do not matter, simply because it is your life. If you know what to do, but too afraid to take the risk, then that is when you have to tell yourself to just step up. Taking on other people's advice even though you don't agree with them is never going to be the answer.

Spend more time asking yourself for advice. Trust yourself when it comes to solving problems. Be the confident person that you are. You'll be able to take on any challenge that comes your way, no matter how seemingly difficult it might be.

Be an observer

To be able to truly celebrate being alone, you need to look and find something amazing in the ordinary. You have to have fresh eyes. Go out of your way to try something different. For example, if you are used to running on a track every morning, perhaps you can start running in the park.

Observe how others are doing what they are doing. You can go to the grocery and look at other people doing their shopping. What makes your practice different from theirs? Maybe you can learn a thing or two.

Always try to make an effort to understand how others do it minus the interaction. You will be surprised how this activity can make you feel connected to people now more than ever.

Being alone does not mean you withdraw yourself from the world. In truth, it's the other way around.

When you're alone, it means knowing that you can surround yourself with people without drowning in their shadows. It means you are dependent on your own self to create your own source of happiness.

Be kind to yourself. You'll never discover the real beauty of life unless you give yourself the chance to discover who you are.
