What’s the first thing you can think of when you finally finish school? Perhaps the thought of being in the real world excites you. After all, you have spent the first twenty years of your life in school, learning all you could ever need to prepare for life.
But then, there is a part of you that feels scared about facing the real world. How will you survive? Will you be able to meet all the challenges and come out as the winner? Learning skills and lessons about life from school is just one part of what you need to know.
Are you ready for what’s ahead?
Where will you be from here on out? This is perhaps one of the scariest questions you need to ask yourself. When it’s time to leave school, and you need to move on to your new life, you can’t help but worry about what lies ahead.
There are a lot of things that you need to think about every day. They say adulting is difficult, and it can be. These are the things you don’t learn in school. These are the realities of life that nobody ever told you about.
What does it mean to live on your own every day? It means wishing you learned more in school to be more prepared for the “adult life” that you are about to get yourself into.
Sometimes, it could mean wishing you developed the skills and abilities that could later benefit you without you even knowing. What skills do you need outside the four walls of the classroom?
As you grow older and life goes on, you take on more experiences. You learn more life lessons for security and survival.
Along the way, you can create morals that make you the person that you are. Perhaps, you have learned to master a talent or two that will help you survive the journey.
Everyday life is all about finding the drive in you to continue doing what you are doing. It means learning and relearning the things you need to live a good life.
Do you have a list of life skills that should be taught in school? In truth, nobody knows what they need in life until they find themselves in a situation that requires what they do not have.
Whether it is patience or hard work, anything and everything you learn in real life are lessons you need to keep. These are things you don’t learn in school. However, these are the things that knowledge from school prepared you for.
Here are some of the things that real-life made you realize:
When it comes to a job, a sport, or any relationship, you only start to figure out what you are good at and what you don’t have any idea about when your limitations are put to the test. While you struggle to make a name for yourself, you start realizing that there are still so many things that will just make you stop pushing.
But then again, life will teach you this important lesson: demand challenges, but never strive for perfection. Everyone should always try to work hard and give their best in everything that they do. They must always aim for success but know exactly when to stop.
Take a step back and think about how you have been treating yourself. If you are hurting who you are because of what you do, tell yourself to stop.
Eventually, learning to accept that you cannot always be who you want to be is the best way to survive in this lifetime. The more important thing is to always be true to yourself.
Books will teach you a lot of things in theory, but the streets will teach you a lot about real life. Real-life wisdom is what your experiences will show you. Your exposure to different people and how they react to situations will teach you how to deal accordingly.
Being street smart will eventually pay off. It is your ability to understand people, read into them, and communicate with them the best way you know that will propel you forward. You will start to notice people’s behaviors, expressions, actions, and reactions, and they all give you a sneak peek into that person’s life.
You begin to learn what people want to hear and what they need to hear. This is the skill that will help you establish yourself well in the field of business. It is the same skill that will help you establish friendships that will last a lifetime and relationships that you can keep for good.
Young children only get to eat ice cream when they ask their parents for it again and again. The same mindset should be applied when you are seeking a job. You need to be persistent.
Any employer would like to hear from people who are persistent in their job applications. When you follow-up on your application or you offer them something new, all these could help you find success in life.
Constantly reminding people who you are and your good intentions to work with them always proves the kind of person that you are. When you keep telling people what you want and what you can do for them, they are constantly reminded of the many things they wish they were.
When you don’t get what you want the first time, try again. Then, push yourself to try even more. But a word of caution: be mindful of your limitations.
Teach yourself to persevere, then teach yourself to stop when it is no longer healthy for you.
Now that you are free and independent in your choices, you need to take on the responsibility seriously. You need to teach yourself to thrive even if you are alone and nobody is there to help you.
You need to learn to find opportunities that will push you to your limits and yet teach you to become better. Take on the world and learn what you can learn from others.
At this point, all you need to be is stay positive. You need to take advantage of what life throws at you and make the most of it.
